God tells Abraham that his descendents are going to be slaves for 400 years in a strange land (Egypt).

I don't know if I should be more shocked about God not telling Abraham how to stay away from this fate or Abraham not even bothering to ask how to avoid it.

Abraham's descendents aren't even born yet and God preemptively punishes them. Now there's a loving God...
